A singles night  ·  Flatiron  ·  Thursdays · October to December

Every song is an introduction.

A lesson made for the evening, partners changing with every song; then the DJ, and the rest of the night. The bar is open all night. Twenty-one and over.

How the night goes.

Doors · the lesson · the room

01

Doors at seven.

Come alone; most people do. The bar is open, the room is easy to read, and by half past you'll have a partner.

02

A lesson made for the evening.

At half past: forty-five minutes of New York salsa, partners changing with every song. It has your first time in mind; if you have danced before, you already know the fastest way to meet a room.

03

Then the DJ, and the rest of the night.

The floor stays open until ten. By then you've danced with the room — and talked to the ones you wanted to.

December is different. The last two nights of the year are vinyl lounge nights — records, a bar, one long table and a terrace. If you love the music and came for the conversation, those are your nights.

Where this started.

A studio · 2025

Seventeen people gathered in front of a dance studio's mirror wall, arms around each other, at the end of a night

Before the lofts, a dance studio: white walls, a mirror down one side, a barre, and a floor built to be danced on. The lesson and the rotation were made in that room — a class, then partners changing with every song, and a floor of people who had all come on their own. What worked, we kept. The part of it that mattered came with us.

In the studio · 2025

If you were in that room, you already know what the night is. If you are new to it, this is the part we kept.

The rooms

Three rooms, three kinds of night.

Every Met Dancing night is in one of the three Flatiron Loft Collection rooms — three lofts close enough together that you could walk between them in the time it takes to finish a song, all run by one house. Which room a night is in is on its Luma page, and so is the way in.

20 W 23rd St · Suite 5

Loft on Fifth

The whole fifth floor. The floor is wide enough for the whole rotation; the bar runs along one wall, and three side rooms open off the floor — somewhere to take a conversation when a song ends. Upstairs, a private roof with two fire pits, which is where the talking goes once the room is warm.

14 W 23rd St · Penthouse

14 West Loft

An entire penthouse floor in its own building, all of it given to the night. Skylights by day, lamplight after dark; one long table that seats ten, a bar station, a Marshall in the corner and shelves of books someone has actually read. A terrace runs off the end of it. December's vinyl nights were made for this room.

On the night Records, a bar, the table and the terrace, and a room full of people who came to talk.

Loft in Flatiron

The liveliest of the three, and the one built around a DJ: brick, neon, a bar long enough to lean on all night, and a pool table for between songs.

Why dancing.

The music does the introduction

Apps put the talking first and the meeting last. A dance puts them in the right order: for three minutes you have a partner, a reason to be close, something new to learn together, and something to laugh about when the song ends.

You learn more about someone in one song than in a week of messages. Then it ends, and you're free to say “again?” — or to thank them and turn to the next.

Three minutes on the floor, and you've already met.
